WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!
WHAT CONTESTS are we promoting this 2023-24 membership year?
- International Speech: a 5–7-minute speech on any topic
- Evaluation Speech: listen to a 5–7-minute test speech and present a 2–3-minute evaluation of that speech
- Humorous Speech: a 5–7-minute speech that must be thematic in nature (opening, body, and close) not a monologue (series of one-liners)
WHEN are the contests scheduled?
Clubs: September 1 – December 31
Contests may be held in person, online, or in a hybrid format at club’s discretion
Areas: January 1 – February 28
Contests MUST BE held in hybrid format
Divisions: March 1 – April 21
Contests MUST BE held in hybrid format
District: May 17-18 at the District 84 Conference
Contests MUST BE held in hybrid format at the District 84 Conference
Competition begins with club contests, and winners continue competing through the Area, Division, and District levels. Winners of the District level International Speech Contest proceed to the region quarterfinal level. Following region quarterfinals, winners advance to the semifinals for a chance to take part in the World Championship of Public Speaking
WHO can compete?
- Evaluation and Humorous Speech Contests: Any member in good standing of a club in good standing
- International Speech Contest: A member in good standing of a club in good standing who has completed at least 2 levels in the Pathways educational program or is a DTM. There is an exception for members of a newly chartered club to participate without meeting the educational requirement.
