These are just a few important items on my “to-do” list for July and August. What’s on YOUR Toastmaster Check List? Have you been able to check anything off as completed? Are you working on things now that can be checked off the list soon? Are you adding new “to-do’s” for the upcoming weeks (and months)? Are there on-going items that will continue weekly or monthly or quarterly for this Toastmaster year?
By checking things off our “to do” list, we feel a sense of accomplishment. It gives us the energy to keep going and get more done. By staying positive and keeping the enthusiasm going, we not only feel good about ourselves, those around us can feel it.
No matter what our role is, whether we are on the District Leadership team, a club officer or a “JAM” (Just a Member), it helps to plan ahead, work towards and achieve our goals and responsibilities. Some items on our list may have a deadline or a due date, while some items may be “open ended”. Either way, we should give ourselves a timeline and stay accountable.
We need to make the time to accomplish the things that we are responsible for, but don’t forget to also make the time to do the things that we want to do.
It’s important to have time for yourselves, even it is 5 or 10 minutes a day, or an hour or so a week. Take a walk, read a book, take a nap, go to the gym… as busy as our lives can get, it’s important to make sure that you have some “me time” at least once a week.
Let’s work together to set our Toastmaster goals for this year, be it a personal goal, or a club, Area, Division or District goal. Let’s not just write them down and procrastinate. Let’s DO the things we want to (and need to) do in order to help each other learn and grow in our Toastmaster journey. Let’s make our Check List, update it regularly and stay on track. Let’s be accountable and proudly check each accomplished item on the list as “Done!”
Let’s keep each other in check. As we work on our “to do list”, one day at a time, one week at a time, one month at a time… stay positive and share your enthusiasm.
And before you know it… Mission Accomplished!
Happy August, everyone!
